In the fields outside of town

-Dan Behrens

Somebody needs a landscape.

A hint of sunshine.

A smile.

An understanding silence

that abides,

and doesn’t slowly waft away.

And you know her.

Somebody needs a breaking fog.

A morning song.

A friend.

That particular kind of patience

that only comes from you

cause you’re still here.

And again, you’re still here.

And you know him.

Somebody needs the feel of knee-high grass

in the fields outside of town.

Their layered togetherness

like dancing children

of a far off land.

The way we all should embrace

our closest stranger —

somehow not all that strange after all.
